RODWELL BACK FOR ARSENAL

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Jack Rodwell will be in the squad for the upcoming match against Arsenal at the Emirates stadium. City could go one step closer towards winning the Premier league title this campaign if they win against Arsenal since this is one of the few tough matches they have left in the campaign. Even though they trail leaders Liverpool and Chelsea by a couple of points, they have two matches in hand. It should give them enough points to leapfrog both of the clubs in the table.

City have unarguably tough into the campaign with matches against Liverpool and Arsenal away from home. However, this is probably the right time to face Arsenal since they are coming on the back of two matches without a win. They have also suffered a 6-0 thrashing in one of these matches, which has potentially ended their title race for another campaign. They will be focusing their attention on the FA Cup in the remainder of the season, which will mean good news for city. While confirming Rodwell’s position in the squad, Pellegrini has also said that Richards has been working well with the squad.

The future of the England international is a major doubt since he is out of contract in the summer and City have been linked with Bacary Sagna.

“Jack Rodwell is in the squad. Micah Richards is staying working here. I have heard so many names through the year that I cannot continue talking about all the rumours every week,” said Pellegrini about the future of players like Rodwell and Richards. He also was speaking about the possibility of making a move for Sagna, who will be available on a free transfer. The Arsenal right back has been one of the best in the Premier league.

RODWELL SET TO MOVE BACK?

Jack Rodwell’s spell in Manchester City has seen him struggling since he made his move to the club in August of 2012. Being able to make less than 20 appearances for City, it’s a completely different time for the player that made his way into the reserve team of Everton at the age of 15 and later broke the record for being the youngest player to represent Everton in Europe as he was only 16 years old.

The defensive midfielder has failed to secure a place in the starting lineup of Manuel Pellegrini as well as being plagued with injuries that have further left him out of action in Manchester City.

Roberto Martinez is interested in bringing back Rodwell to Everton and he even attempted on signing the midfielder during the January transfer window but failed on doing so but will once more attempt on signing him in the summer.

Everton has recently suffered defeats against Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool which has seen the team of Roberto Martinez being knocked out of the FA Cup and falling into lower spots in the Premier League but despite all of those recent negative results, Martinez believes that the squad has been improving.

“I think at the beginning of the season you get those teams who are expected to win titles because of the financial approach,” he said. “We are in a position where, because of our football club and our history, we should be expecting to win titles. It is going to be a bit of a process but I think you saw we are not far from being able to go to Arsenal and be able to get through to an FA Cup semi-final.

“Now it’s a matter of making sure the small margins get affected in our favour and we can progress without expecting to go into big places like the Emirates and be beaten. The performances are showing that we’re starting to develop that belief so the next stage is to be able to reflect it in the scoreline.” Martinez said.

EVERTON CHASED RODWELL

It has been revealed that Everton came close to re-signing Jack Rodwell from Manchester City at least a season-long loan deal. The former blue has found it difficult to get first team opportunities at City due to the presence of players like Yaya Touré and Fernandinho. Further, he has also been suffering from numerous injury problems throughout his career. Rodwell is understood to have been keen to play regular first-team football with the World Cup coming up in less than a few months. Since Manuel Pellegrini has been unable to use him ahead of Touré and Fernandinho, a loan deal was viewed as the ideal solution for both parties.

Everton were interested in taking him on a loan deal, but were unable to do so due to Premier league rules. According to the rules, a club cannot have two players on loan from a single club. Hence, Everton decided to buy Gareth Barry, who is already on at Goodison Park, on a permanent basis so that they could bring Rodwell on a loan deal. It is understood that they offered around £ 1 million for Barry, but City are unable to accept the offer since they could not agree a deal to bring Fernando from FC Porto.

The Portuguese club placed a £ 40 million pricetag on Fernando’s head.

“It’s important to understand we have performed really well this season. The summer window is very different to the January window. The January window is a gamble. That means you can go for players no-one expects to be available or, if your season has not been good enough, you need to gamble to change things around. If you look at the top performing teams then Manchester City have not signed anyone and Arsenal bought one player as cover,” said Martinez after the transfer window.

RODWELL RECOVERING

After arriving in the summer for £ 12 million, the former Everton midfielder Jack Rodwell has not been a first-team regular at the Etihad stadium under the manager Roberto Mancini. However, it has been primarily due to the fact that Rodwell has not been available for selection due to his injury problems. After being patient with the player in the first half of the season, the manager has raised his concern about the number of injury problems faced by Rodwell for the first time this season. The midfielder is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, which is the sixth time he has had this injury this season.

Hamstring has been a major problem for the player, who has not featured for the club since being a substitute in the 3-0 win over Sunderland more than two months ago. Mancini has frequently complained about the lack of options in midfield, which have not allowed him to build on the success achieved last season. City are currently five points behind the leaders Manchester United. Rodwell was once regarded as the next big thing in English football. He was even compared with the former Everton striker Wayne Rooney for the quality that he possessed, but injuries have been unkind to him over the last few years.

“He’s getting better and we hope we can maybe recover him in two or three weeks. He needs to start to work with the group but he didn’t do this until [last] Thursday. I’m worried because when we bought him we thought that he was a good player and then he has these problems with his hamstrings. We hope we can improve this situation for him because he’s young, he’s got quality, he has everything to have a good career,” said Mancini, who also said that Balotelli will not be sold.

RODWELL RETUNS IN JAN

The Manchester City midfielder Jack Rodwell has said that he is expecting to return to the first-team action in January. The former Everton man has not been of the first-team regulars at the club since arriving in a £ 12 million deal in the summer. In fact, he has made just six appearances for Roberto Mancini’s men after he has struggled with a lot of injuries. Rodwell came to Manchester City with a history of several injuries over the last few years, which have meant that clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea – who were previously interested in him – pulled out of the deal.

The 21-year-old, though, has incredible potential and Mancini thinks that he will be able to get the best out of him. Due to the fact that City will be losing the services of Yaya Touré for the 2013 African cup of nations, the return of Rodwell to the first team will be a major boost for Mancini. City have fallen seven points behind leaders United the table, which has put a lot of pressure on the manager. He is widely expected to get the sack if City do not win the Premier league title this season. The red card received by Samir Nasri in the match against Norwich means that he will be unavailable for the next three matches as well.

“I’ve just had a little bit of a setback with my hamstring injury. It will probably be another few weeks, so I’m looking into the new year. I’m doing quite a lot of training at the minute though, so I’m keeping busy. It’s down to strengthening now, so I’m doing a lot of work in the gym and am just getting it right to prevent another injury,” said Rodwell. Rodwell’s last appearance for the club was back in October.

RODWELL HAPPY AT CITY

The new Manchester city midfielder Jack Rodwell has said that he is extremely happy to sign with the Premier league champions and has said that it is the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a club of this stature. Jack Rodwell has been linked with some of the biggest names in world football like Manchester United and Chelsea in the last few seasons. However, both the clubs have not been able to agree a fee with Everton for the services of the England midfielder. Manchester city managed to nab the player in a £ 15 million deal that will see him join the Premier league champions.

Speaking on the occasion of his unveiling, Jack Rodwell has said that it is a great opportunity to join a club like Manchester city and he feels that he will win a lot of trophies in the future. Jack Rodwell was initially expected to follow Wayne Rooney to Manchester United, but he has signed for the arch rivals Manchester city. There have been doubts that Jack Rodwell will not be getting regular first-team football at Manchester city, but the former Everton player reckons that he has to fight for a spot in the first-team at any club.

“It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I believe in my ability. No matter what squad I go to, I always feel I can add something to it. It will be an exciting place to go, playing with amazing players. It is a chance to win things. They won the league last year and I’m sure they will look to improve on that, especially in the Champions League as well. I’m going to have to be patient but I’m still young,” said Jack Rodwell. Rodwell has said that he is hoping that his injury problems will finally start to disappear.
