Manchester City target Barkley

Premier League champions Manchester City are pondering a move for young Everton midfield work horse Ross Barkley as a replacement for the wantaway Yaya Toure.

City have no intentions of selling the Ivory Coast international who has been pushing for a move to France or Spain but have been planning for the future and Barkley, at 20 years old, presents an investment into the future.

City desire to bolster the home grown players’ quota in their side and that has thrown up the possibility of bringing in one of the biggest talents in world football to the Etihad Stadium – Paul Pogba from Juventus. Continue reading “Manchester City target Barkley”

City Almost Certain To Sell Rodwell

There have been several reports in England stating that Manchester city are almost certain to sell Jack Rodwell in the summer after failing to see the best of the former Everton star at the Etihad stadium. Rodwell moved from Everton to City in 2002 for a transfer fee believed to be in the region of £ 15 million. The transfer fee could have been significantly higher had Rodwell not suffered from several injury problems prior to his move. Once regarded as the best young midfielder for the England national team, his career has not progressed in the last few years.

This has been due to a combination of injuries and competition in the Manchester City team. Whenever he has been injured, he has found it tough to get back soon. And when he has been fit, he has been unable to get regular first-team football due to the form of players above him in the pecking order. As a result, he has made just 16 appearances in the last two years. City are reportedly ready to cut their losses by selling the player in this transfer window. They have already signed a replacement for him in the form of Fernando from FC Porto.

The midfielder, who has been a long-term transfer target for the club, comes for a transfer fee of £ 12 million. He is expected to be the reserve defensive midfielder behind Brazil’s Fernandinho. City won the title last season, but they are set to improve this campaign by strengthening some key areas. Signing another central defender will be high on the agenda after Joleon Lescott looks set to move away from the club. Micah Richards is also another English player link with an exit from City. Rodwell has been linked with the likes of West Brom in the last few weeks.

Carsley Warns Barkley To Avoid Rodwell’s Footsteps

Everton icon Lee Carsley has stated that Ross Barkley should avoid the same mistake as Jack Rodwell and chose to stay at Everton rather than join the club right now. Barkley is seen as one of the most talented youngsters in the game. He has been linked with the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City in the last few months. United are also thought to have an interest in the player, but the appointment of Louis van Gaal appears to have shifted their attention elsewhere. Rodwell was one of the last Everton midfielders to make a big-money move to a top club.

However, the lack of regular gametime has worked to the detriment of the player and he is now on the fringes of the City game. Rodwell has been heavily linked with a return to Everton in the summer. In order to get game time, he was even spoken about a potential loan signing for Everton in the January transfer window. That it did not materialise because Everton already had Gareth Barry on loan from City and Premier League clubs can only sign on loan player from a club. Barkley is seen as one of the high-profile transfers in the summer, but Carsley says that Everton provide the best platform for Barkley to improve as a player.

“Roberto Martinez is spot-on to suggest that Goodison Park is the perfect place for Ross Barkley. He’s an Evertonian, the fans love him and the club stuck by him during his injuries which I’m sure he’ll always be grateful for. Obviously if Ross makes a big impact with England at the World Cup this summer we’ll get all the inevitable transfer gossip rumours but the truth is that Ross would be better off staying at Everton and I reckon he’s clever enough to realise that. The grass is not always greener,” said Carsley.

Rodwell Set To Move Away From City

Everton have once again been linked with a move for their former midfielder Jack Rodwell, who has struggled throughout his season with Manchester City. After several injury problems, the player has been training well in the last few months. However, he has barely got a look into the team that features several stars like Yaya Touré and Fernandinho in the middle of the park. Due to this intense competition, he made just 26 appearances in the last two seasons of the club. In order to rediscover his career, Rodwell appears set to move away from City on a permanent basis.

Everton tried to bring him back during the January transfer window, but the presence of Gareth Barry – already on loan from City – prevented this move from happening. Now that Barry has returned back to City, Everton will be free to make a move for Rodwell. However, they are not the only club looking to sign the former England international, as the likes of Newcastle United are also keen on signing him. Due to his recent injury problems, City are unlikely to negotiate for long when it comes to transfer fees.

This is believed to be one of the major reason behind Newcastle United’s entry into the situation. However, a move back to his former club will always sound enticing for the midfielder, who recently picked up his Premier League medal with City. Manchester city brought the youngster from Everton for a fee of around £ 12 million. He had been representing Everton since the age of 16 when he made his debut in the UEFA cup. Rodwell has been at City for the last two seasons, but he has had limited impact and his career is in danger of going astray if he does not start playing regular football once again.
